SCC's 10 & Under
4nd Annual Schenectady's Ten & Under Bonspiel
December 7, 8, 9, 2007
Bonspiel Invitation |
Bonspiel Application
Hey folks, Schenectady Curling Club will be hosting the fourth annual Men's 10 & Under Bonspiel on December 7, 8 & 9, 2007. Our ice has been in since early of October and it's better than ever. Expect fast ice with great curl. Special thanks goes to our head icemaker Jim Ridenour and his crew. SCC members are excited about the upcoming season and we're ready for the 10 & Under.
For those not familiar with this event, eligibility is limited to men with ten or less years of curling experience, providing the opportunity for curlers to compete with teams of similar skill and experience. Among others, participants will include those who have aged out of the Francis Dykes competition, as well as current Dykes competitors hoping to hone their skills in preparation for the '06-'07 Dykes event to be held right here in Schenectady. Based on last year's participation level, the number of last year's rinks we expect to return ~ likely to be all of them ~ and the additional entries already received so far this year, the Schenectady Curling Club has expanded the 10 & Under Bonspiel to accommodate 24 rinks.
The 10 & Under Bonspiel is structured to offer sufficient ice time while still providing ample time to socialize with old friends. A minimum of 4 games are guaranteed for all participating rinks. All meals are covered by the $270 rink fee, including Friday's lunch & buffet dinner; Saturday's breakfast, lunch and our now famous grilled tenderloin fillet steak dinner; and a full Sunday brunch. The Texas Hold'Em tournament will again be held but we also have live entertainment on tap for Saturday night (guests welcome), and a "Lead of the 'Spiel" competition will be held through-out the weekend. Last: If your rink likes to keep their cash for other "essentials", SCC will again be sponsoring the "curl for free" game during Friday night's last two draws, with the winning rink having their entry fee returned to them, in cash. As they say, you have to play to win and to win this one, you must be either be in the SCC warm room or on the ice during those games.
With this year's 24-rink draw, we anticipate the draws will start at 10 AM on Friday. As always, out of town rinks will be offered access to the latest available draw times. The five final events will include 20 of the 24 rinks, and the final draw of the bonspiel will start around 11:30 AM on Sunday morning, following awards made to the E-event winners. The A-event champs (the Brooks Memorial) & the B-event's winning rink (the Tom Garber Memorial) will have their names engraved on their respective trophies, allowing bragging rights for years to come. Finalist in the top four events will be awarded pins. A little history: the inaugural A-event champs were the Brian Moon rink from Albany CC, followed by Utica CC's Stuhlman rink, with Broomstones CC's Bob Choy crew capturing the honors in '06.
Returning skips' applications will be accepted first, followed by other applicants in the order they are received. Returning skips: Please make sure I receive your emailed application by Friday, November 9th, 2007, to reserve your spot. To all: If you do plan to attend but don't yet have a full rink, please submit a partial application and re-submit the completed application when you can identify your full rink. To guarantee your entry by emailed application, your check must be received no later than November 16, 2007. (checks won't be deposited until SCC has confirmed your entry has been accepted)
Again, based on early feedback from last year's participants and the additional entries we've already received, interest is very strong. We'd like to be as inclusive as possible so please submit your application by email asap. Invitations and applications will be emailed to all GNCC clubs but if you know of anyone planning to or thinking of joining us, please share this page with them so they'll have early notice and don't miss the opportunity.
