Schenectady Curling Club’s
6th Annual Men’s Ten & Under Bonspiel
December 11, 12 & 13, 2009
Bonspiel Invitation |
Bonspiel Application
The Schenectady Curling Club will be hosting the sixth annual Men's 10 & Under Bonspiel on December 11- 13, 2009, and you're cordially invited to join us. With special thanks to our head icemaker Jim Ridenour and the rest of the ice crew, our ice is great. We're very excited about the upcoming season, and ready to go.
For those not familiar with this event, *eligibility is limited to men with ten or fewer years of curling experience*, which provides the opportunity for curlers to compete with teams of similar skill and experience. Among others, participants will include those who have aged out of the Francis Dykes (5 & Under) competition, along with competitors honing their skills in preparation for future Dykes events. The draw has been set to accommodate no more than 24 rinks, so please don't delay in submitting your entry.
The 10 & Under Bonspiel is structured to offer sufficient ice time while still providing ample time to socialize with old friends. A minimum of 4 games are guaranteed for all participating rinks. All meals are covered by the $280 rink fee, including Friday's lunch & buffet dinner; Saturday's breakfast, lunch and our famous grilled tenderloin fillet steak dinner; and a full Sunday brunch. As usual, SCC will be sponsoring the "curl for free" game during Friday night's last two draws, with the winning rink having their entry fee returned to them, in cash. You have to play to win, and to win this one, you must be either in the SCC warm room or on the ice during those games. A "Lead of the 'Spiel" competition will be held throughout the weekend.
With a 24-rink draw, we anticipate play will start at 10 AM on Friday. Out-of-town rinks will be offered access to the latest available draw times. Sunday's five final events will include 20 rinks, with the event Finals starting at 11:30 AM. The A-event champs (the Brooks Memorial) & the B-event's winning rink (the Tom Garber Memorial) will have their names engraved on their respective trophies, allowing bragging rights for years to come. Finalists in the top four events will be awarded pins.
Returning skips: To reserve your spot, be sure to submit your application no later than Monday, 11-09-09.
To all: If you do plan to attend, but don't yet have a full rink, please submit a partial application, and re-submit the completed application when you do have a full rink. Returning skips' applications will be accepted first, if received by 11-09-09, followed by other entries in the order they are received. To guarantee emailed applications, the entry fee must be received no later than 11-16-09. SCC will confirm that your application has been accepted before depositing your check.
Based on early feedback, interest is stronger than ever. In fact, we are expecting at least one team from Canada, and a rink from the Triangle Curling Club (North Carolina) to join us this year. We'd like to be as inclusive as possible, so please submit your application by email ASAP. Invitations and applications will be emailed to all GNCC clubs, but if you know of anyone planning to join us, please forward this email to them so that they don't miss the opportunity to participate.
