The Stants Memorial Bonspiel

Stants MedalNew for 2004, the Stants Bonspiel replaced the Gabel Bonspiel as the SCC men's "Junior" skip club championship. First event finalist will compete for the Stants medal with the Vaughen, Link and Leonard as the other medal events in this Bonspiel.

Gus Stants has generously donated winner and runner up pins for this event, in memory of his father Harry. Harry was not a curler, but often came to the club to watch his wife Vicki play. Harry was famous for wearing hats as shown on the Stants Medal. The Stants Bonspiel begins a new tradition in Schenectady. Come and be a part of it.

Frank G. Vaughen Trophy

Vaughen MedalThe Frank G. Vaughen Trophy was presented in 1945 to foster competition among Junior Skips. Mr. Vaughen was Vice President of SCC for 10 years, 1923-33. He was also President from 1916 to 1920. An excellent curler, he skipped a Schenectady rink to its first Gordon Medal in 1916. He was also President of the GNCC.

John Link Cup

Link MedalThe John Link Cup was presented in 1972 by "curling brithers" in honor of John H. Link. John was the architect who designed the Balltown Road facility in 1951. He was a serious student of curling and wrote his own rules of strategy which are frequently used today. He knew more about curling than most skips and lead a Schenectady rink to the U.S. Men's Championships.

Richard M. Leonard Trophy

Leonard medalThe Richard M. Leonard Trophy was presented in 1978 by members of the SCC in his memory. A Schenectady attorney, he was a true gentleman of the sport of curling.

Dick & his wife, Blythe, curled for many years and the family heritage continues with their daughter Amanda Vickerson who curls with husband Tom in Rochester.
