Ladies Five Year and Under

This year we did have a couple teams that represented Schenectady at the Women’s Challenge. One team was made up of Rebecca Carosella, Karen Hess, Michelle Mayhew and Cathy Haag. The other Schenectady team was Margaret Brennan, Kathleen Ostergren and two ladies from Rochester. I heard that they had a wonderful time! We are very proud of these two teams and are very happy that they participated.

Rule Suggestions

If anyone has any suggestions/ideas for altering current rules of play, please write them down on paper with your name and give them to a committee member before the July meeting. Please be as clear and concise as possible so we can fully understand your suggestion and the reason behind your thoughts. You may be invited to sit on a committee to help define the rules. It will be an invitation and not something that is mandatory. We encourage everyone that has a strong opinion about a rule to write a statement. Communication is the key and we want to have a solid set of rules so that everyone will feel good about them. Our goal is to have the rules approved and finalized by the end of the summer.

Senior Friendship Tour

We will be hosting a day for the Senior Friendship Tour on November 12th at the start of next season. This will be a busy time for the club and we are looking for as many volunteers as we can get. If you are interested please contact Charlotte Colton, Judy McCullough or Betty Sovik.

Lovejoy Results

The winners of the 69th LOVEJOY bonspiel were Jim Colton, Jon Pearson and Art Merkley (I apologize if I am missing a team member). They had a good game against Bob Mulig, Dan Machold, Tim Brooks and John Cassidy.

M.P. Rice Trophy – 2nd Event went to Howard Knudsen’s Team.
Steadwell/Jackson Medal – 3rd Event went to Vic Temple’s Team.
Delack Medal – 4th Event went to Charlie McCullough’s Team.

Letter From Greg

Board Members and To Whom it May Concern:
I wanted to take a moment to let you know that the support shown to all members going off to Maine to compete in the “Dykes” was appreciated and obvious. Your interest and that of many members helped to motivate all of us to represent the club well. I believe we all did.

Many people could be thanked, but a few in particular need to be mentioned. The Ice Committee for their time and effort as well as our mentors, of which there were many offering advice, coaching, time and interest. But in particular Bob Mulig. His assistance and interest was appreciated.

We found the competition to be strong and to that end I have a suggestion for you to evaluate. Clubs typically represented in the event finals have leagues and committees designed to promote curling in the Dykes. The level of competition was probably somewhat similar to our Monday night league, above the O’Malley and not as strong as the Wednesday night league.

With that in mind, I would like to request that teams committed to the Dykes be encouraged to join the Monday night league as a unit, out of the draft. I doubt any would dominate, and if they did win, break them up! The benefit of playing together for a season building up to the Dykes seems obvious. I hope you will consider this in a favorable nature.

Secondly, I am interested in using, renting, the outdoor sign for my business when the club cannot use it. Please let me know if this is possible and how it may be accomplished. Again, thank you for your support. I am sure I speak for many of us.
