Schenectady Curling Club 2008 Mixed Championship

Schenectady Curling Club played its 2008 mixed curling championship on March 28 – 30 with sixteen teams competing for four medals.

The first and second events, the Cunningham and Parker medals, are now sponsored by Maggie Reynolds, who is the granddaughter of Jack Cunningham and daughter of the Bus and Peggy Parker, all were active members of the Schenectady Curling Club for many years. Maggie could not be present on Sunday to award her medals, instead Jim Holmblad awarded the Cunningham and Jonathon Pearson awarded the Parker. Both men knew the family well and treated the crowd to some history. The third and fourth events were awarded by their sponsors Claire Brunkhorst and Charlie McCullough.

The Cunningham medal was won by the team skipped by Charlie McCullough with Chrissy Haase at vice and Mike Beaton at two. The lead position was shared by MJ Miller and Andrea Warr. The Cunningham finalist team was skipped by Jeff Mayott with Lori Millet at vice, Jamey Grandusky at two and Jill Durie at lead. Both Jamey and Jill are new players this season. Way to go!

The rest of the results can be found in the Cunningham page

Congratulations to all of the teams that made it to the finals and thanks to all who participated. You made it fun!

Nancy Wurth and Jack Stopera.

A reality show about Curling?

I have recently heard rumors about NBC basing a reality TV show on curling. NBC plans on taking 10 ordinary men and women that don't know anything about the sport to train and teach them how to be olympians for the next Winter Olympics in 2010.

After some research I found out that this is actually true. For the first time in my adult life I am actually looking forward to a reality TV show. When this airs in 2009, it will be the first and only reality show I will ever watch. I swore on my life that I would never watch any reality television, I guess you should never ever say never!

Club Announcements

Pin Sponsors

Some members have expressed an interest in having a pin struck to sponsor a bonspiel event or league. If you would like to discuss the possiblity of being a pin sponsor, please contact Charlene Fitzgerald or any other SCC Board Member.

Attention all Chairs of Leagues and Bonspiels

When your event is completed, please submit an electronic report (CD preferred) to the board. This will replace the old "Event Books". The need for this information became very apparent to many of us who were trying to track down last year’s winners for the directory. Our memory gets very fuzzy very quickly.
