Why Try Curling?
Have you seen a game of curling and thought you would love to play this interesting
sport? Then why not stop by the Schenectady Curling Club and give it a shot? We
welcome everybody to come during our open houses or any time during the curling
season. During open houses, we will give you free curling instructions, show you
how to play and throw stones and even give you the opportunity to throw a few stones
yourself. Curling is a lot of fun and it's great exercise. Don't spend another
winter season with cabin fever!

What Do I Need?
Just your warm clothing (layers help), sneakers, and a sense of humor. Curling is a low
cost, high fun sport. Nearly all of the equipment necessary to play is provided by the club.
Please do not bring skates, skates will ruin our ice.
Joining the Club
If you find that curling is for you, the club has a number of
leagues to fit your schedule and needs. Visit our
leagues section for more information about them.
Join as many or as few as you wish, all at no extra charge, once you're a member. Being a member also means you are part of the GNCC
and you are eligible to go to other clubs for bonspiels (tournaments) which is the very
heart of the sport of curling. The opportunities are endless. To join, come to one
of our open houses to get more information. If you are unable to make one of the
scheduled open houses, do not despair. Just give us a call or drop us an email.
We would love to have you aboard.
Joining a League
Once you join, you may want to be part of a league.
This is where the real fun starts. If you are new to the sport, you may want to join
the Open Learning League. In this league, a different
topic will be discussed and practiced each time during a game.
You may also want to join other introductory and intermediate leagues depending upon how
competitive you feel like being. It is all up to you. Curling is about having
a good time, and every curler will vouch for that.
Once you join the club, you will receive a "Welcome to the Club" member packet. In this
packet you will find information about every league and bonspiel hosted at the club.
To join a league, simply fill out the application in the packet for the leagues you
want to join and return it to the membership committee of the club. You will be
contacted by your assigned skip by phone or email about when your
first game is scheduled. It's that easy!
Now, get ready to have a great time, because what else can you do with a broom
and a stone?
Want to Take Curling to the Next Level? Take Some Lessons!
Along with the
free open houses, the Schenectady Curling Club is offering paid
curling lessons. Curling lessons are $30 per person for three
sessions, however, the price will be deducted from the total
of your first year dues for those who join the club in 2007.
Where is This Place?
